Spiritually Preparing

In addition to your work in class and at home, you are required to submit an INSCRIPTION PROMISE.    This promise will be submitted when you publicly make a statement to your parish community that you are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.  At this time you will state in a letter why you want to be confirmed.  This will be done during one of the Sunday liturgies.

During your time of preparation, also take some time to reflect on scripture and pray that you and all your friends may embrace this time of preparation to discover how God is calling you.

Socially Preparing

As Jesus taught us, we are called to serve the sick, the poor, and the isolated.  As you prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, you are required to complete at least 10 hours of service in your parish community. During your Rite of Enrolment you are also required to submit a SERVICE PROJECT PROPOSAL   This is another way to help us understand where you are in your preparation work to receive the Sacrament.

Along with these hours, you are also required to keep a SERVICE PROJECT JOURNAL LOG of these hours. In other words, after you complete an hour or two of your service, you are asked to reflect on that experience. These logs are meant to help you see how God is calling you and to help me prepare the Confirmation retreat. 

Choosing a Sponsor

The role of the sponsor is to be a model of faith as you discern about receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.  At the celebration of Confirmation, they will make a public witness to the community that you are ready to be a fully initiated Catholic.  The basic requirements of the Sponsor are as follows:

1. A sponsor must be a fully initiated Catholic.  In other words, the sponsor has received the Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Communion, and Confirmation in a Catholic Church.  The sponsor is currently a practicing Catholic as seen in their prayer life of attending the Sunday liturgy regularly and living out our faith in their daily life.
2. The sponsor must be 16 years or older at the time of your confirmation.
3. The sponsor can not be a parent.

Please have your sponsor fill out the SPONSOR FORM  and return it to you before November 15, 2009.  You are required to submit this form at your Rite of Enrolment.

CONFIRMATION RETREATS

Students will be bused from their school to the church and back again.  Here, they will take time to reflect on the Sacrament of Confirmation and discern if they want to be a fully initiated Catholic.  Lunch is included on the retreat.

CONFIRMANDI SERVICE PROJECT

Don't know what to do for your confirmation service project?  The Youth Ministry of St. Marguerite d'Youville parish wants to help you root your service in  Christ.  Once your service reflects your call to discipleship, it becomes easy to see how to serve the Lord.  To aid you on your journey, the Youth Ministry is holding service session to expose you to service needed at the parish and how to make the experience a spiritual and wonderful experience.  During these sessions, you can sign up for many service projects needing your help at the parish.
